New Omani governate to encourage Indian investments

Dubai: Indian firms will be encouraged to invest in the governorate of Buraimi in Oman, said India's Ambassador to Oman Anil Wadhwa.

Wadhwa said so after a meeting with Sheikh Yahaya Al Mammari, Governor of Buraimi - the newest governorate of Oman that was created in October 2006 after being split from the Ad Dhahirah region of the Gulf nation.

Al Mammari also apprised the ambassador of the governorate's plans to expand its infrastructure and other facilities in order to attract more investments in the region, said a press release issued by the Indian embassy in Oman.

During the course of his visit to Buraimi May 14-15, Ambassador Wadhwa visited the Buraimi College and met its chairman Sheikh Ahmed Al Naimi and the faculty, which has a number of Indian nationals.

Wadhwa donated 150 books on India to the college library with the commitment that exchange between India and the institution would be strengthened in the future.

The ambassador, who also visited the city of Ibri during his trip to north-eastern Oman, interacted with the expatriate Indian community there.
